Produced by Fleer. This is the first set produced by Fleer after their purchase of Marvel Comics in the 1990's. It features characters from the various X-Men comic book titles with full-bleed paintings on the card fronts, complemented by character information and a Mutant Power Profile on the backs. The cards were issued in three ways: hobby, jumbo, and Walmart exclusive packs. Each pack type has exclusive insert cards. Different chase card subsets were available in different pack types. The base set is divided into subsets titled: Super Heroes, Super-Villains, Original Team, X-Overs, Team Triptychs, Deceased, and Wolverine's Greatest Battles. The Team Triptychs subset cards (numbers 109-126) form 3-card puzzles.
